On May 1, the American Academy of Family Physicians joined the Partnership for Medicaid coalition in a letter urging Health and Human Services (HHS) to ensure that a proportional amount of the remaining funding from the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund, and any additional relief funding appropriated by Congress, is provided quickly to all Medicaid physicians and health care professionals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The letter also asked HHS to work closely with states to identify and approve innovative approaches for distributing financial relief to Medicaid providers. Additionally, the letter called for a moratorium on the Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation and that HHS pause the Medicaid-related provisions of the public charge regulation. The letter included an appendix highlighting the need for emergency support for independent physicians.
