On October 27, the Oho Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (OPCPCC) held its one-day, fall conference titled “Overcoming Challenges in Primary Care: A Better Understanding of Value and Outcome.” American Academy of Family Physicians Past President Ted Epperly, MD, of Idaho, highlighted an excellent array of speakers that also included Farzad Mostashari, MD, CEO of Aledade, and Eduardo Sanchez, MD, who formerly headed up the public health department in Texas.
In addition, Monica Juenger of the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation provided an update on the Ohio Comprehensive Primary Care Program and Ohio Academy of Family Physicians member Richard Shonk, MD, provided an update on the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus program and served as master of ceremonies for the day.
Dr. Epperly reviewed the recently-adopted shared principles of primary care developed by Family Medicine for America’s Health. The principles focus on primary care that is: personal and family-centered; comprehensive and equitable; continuous; coordinated and integrated; accessible; team-based and collaborative; and high value.
Dr. Mostashari’s talk focused on the paradox of primary care leadership in the transition from volume to value. Drs. Sanchez elaborated on how social factors affect health.
Four members of the OAFP staff attended the conference. Kate Mahler, CAE, deputy executive vice president, serves on the OPCPCC conference planning committee.
