Cody Klinker, MD, won’t start his new job in Van Wert, OH, until late August, but patients in his hometown have already started reaching out to him asking to schedule appointments.
“That’s pretty awesome,” said Dr. Klinker, who will complete his training at the OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, in June. “Being able to give back to my friends and family and having the opportunity to be a doctor in my community really was appealing to me. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”
Dr. Klinker served on the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) Board of Directors from 2022-23 as a resident director and currently serves on its Workforce Development Workgroup. In August 2024, he was one of two Ohio recipients of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education.
“Being the resident director of the OAFP allowed me to increase my advocacy work, see what it’s like in organizational leadership in family medicine and to network with some of the lead players in family medicine in the state of Ohio. My experiences with the AAFP and the OAFP have been nothing but positive, and I know that the skills I have obtained through these endeavors will benefit my future practice. I am excited to begin my career as a family physician,” Dr. Klinker concluded
