The Ohio National Guard is inviting family physicians to apply for consideration for participation in the 2016 Ohio National Guard Health Care Provider Orientation Flight at Rickenbacker Air National Guard base in Columbus, OH, on Thursday, July 14, 2016.
The purpose of this flight is to familiarize family physicians with the role and mission of the Ohio National Guard and to build awareness that Ohio’s family physicians and other health care professionals caring for TRICARE beneficiaries are needed and appreciated.
Prospective candidates include civilian physicians who practice family medicine, internal medicine, ophthalmology, optometry, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and psychiatry; independently licensed behavior health professionals; and hospital administrators.
On Thursday, July 14, selected participants will actually observe an in-air refueling of a military aircraft and visit with airmen and soldiers who will explain the purpose and use of Army military equipment. Highlights of this experience include special forces weapons and a Black Hawk helicopter on static display.
This experience could start as early as 7:00 a.m. with briefings, after which flights will take off between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and return to Rickenbacker between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Specific timelines for flights will be made available closer to the event, but interested applicants should reserve the full day for this event.
Nominees will be asked to complete a flying medical screening form. Unfortunately, the Ohio National Guard is unable to accommodate persons with physical limitations that might interfere with the ability to make an unlikely emergency exit from the aircraft. Please also understand that being nominated does not necessarily guarantee selection. If you have participated in the past, please consider forwarding this event invitation to colleagues who meet the candidate eligibility as described above. Past OAFP participants have described this as “a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
To apply, please contact Kathy Lowrey, LtCol OHANG, or call 614.336.7002 no later than Friday, April 1.
