James Dom Dera, MD, FAAFP has been appointed as Medical Editor of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) FPM Journal. Dr. Dom Dera practices full-scope family medicine at Ohio Family Practice in Fairlawn, OH, and is an assistant professor of family medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).
Dr. Dom Dera has extensive writing and editing experience, having served on the FPM Editorial Advisory Board since 2019. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at Summa Health System in Akron, OH.
FPM, formerly Family Practice Management, is a peer-reviewed journal published by the AAFP. The mission of FPM is to give family physicians practical information to help maintain efficient and effective practices, enhance the patient experience, and maximize professional satisfaction. FPM is indexed in MEDLINE, the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s premier bibliographic database, PubMED, and Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature.
As medical editor of FPM, Dr. Dom Dera will have the responsibility of keeping the Journal true to its mission and responsive to the needs of its readers by chairing the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) and working directly with AAFP staff. The editor determines the content of the Journal and has final acceptance decisions for all manuscripts and opinion pieces. As a representative of the Journal, the editor attends various AAFP events and meetings, including a yearly meeting of the the EAB at AAFP headquarters in Leawood, KS.
