The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) enthusiastically supports the appointment of Ryan D. Kauffman, MD, FAAFP, as chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Continuing Professional Development.
In her letter of support, OAFP President Anna McMaster, MD, states, “Having served ably, creatively, and conscientiously on this commission for the past six years, you have in Dr. Kauffman a leader with an unparalleled wealth of knowledge and experience in the continuing professional development arena.”
The letter continues:
“Dr. Kauffman understands the workings of the AAFP credit system, and has strong relationships with the various organizations that regulate the continuing professional development of family physicians. In Ohio, we lean heavily upon Dr. Kauffman’s expertise. He is our go to when we are looking to develop a new, innovative learning experience for our members. In 2018, the OAFP awarded Dr. Kauffman its Torchlight Leadership Award in recognition of his innovative contributions to our state chapter’s quality improvement initiatives. He lectures, conducts knowledge self-assessment sessions for multiple state chapters, develops American Board of Family Medicine-certified practice improvement modules, writes articles for various peer-reviewed publications, and does medical editing for FP Essentials. You can always count on him to take on more than his share of responsibility and always deliver a timely, high quality, thoughtful work product.”
“Dr. Kauffman’s leadership extends way beyond his many contributions to continuing medical education activities. Having served in 2015 as OAFP president, Dr. Kauffman is currently one of OAFP’s alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. The hallmarks of Dr. Kauffman’s service are his reputation for always being exceedingly well prepared for any task or responsibility he undertakes; his thoughtful, evidence-based approach to problem solving; and his skill in making everyone feel heard and bringing groups to consensus.“
“In addition to his exemplary record of service to his state chapter, Dr. Kauffman has a long record of distinguished national service. He served as resident delegate (2005) and alternate (2004) to the AAFP Congress. He represented the Ohio chapter at both the National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and the National Conference of Medical Student Members. As Ohio’s new physician delegate to the National Conference of Special Constituencies in 2009 and 2010, Dr. Kauffman served as new physician co-convener in 2011, as new physician delegate (2011) and alternate delegate (2010) to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. Furthermore, he served on the AAFP Commission on Resident and Student Issues and on the AAFP Commission on Membership and Member Services.”
Physician owner of Hickory Medical Direct Primary Care, Dr. Kauffman is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Riverside Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Columbus, OH.
Chair appointments will be announced at the AAFP Congress of Delegates in October. Good luck, Dr. Kauffman!
