Ohio Academy of Family Physicians chapter leaders recently traveled to Atlantic City, NJ, to attend the 2020 Ten State Conference held February 28 – March 1 at Caesar’s Hotel and Casino.
Those in attendance included OAFP President Anna McMaster, MD; OAFP Treasurer Wayne Forde; American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Delegate Sarah Sams, MD; and Executive Vice President Ann Spicer. AAFP leadership and family physicians from Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin participate in Ten State each year.
Presentation topics ranged from primary care spend, prior authorization, and scope of practice to drug pricing, opioids and how to tackle leadership challenges. The New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians hosted this year’s event.
Since Atlantic City is the historic seaside resort that inspired the creation of the game Monopoly, hosts used a Monopoly game theme throughout the conference. Giant game pieces decorated the venue and a social media challenge encouraged interaction among attendees, speakers, and exhibitors.
Ten State represents a unique opportunity for chapter executives and leadership to come together and focus on our shared issues and experiences. Ohio attendees enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner with leaders from the Illinois and Connecticut chapters.
Next year’s Ten State Conference is scheduled for February 19-21, 2021, in Milwaukee. The Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians will host. Ohio’s next turn in the hosting rotation will occur no sooner than 2026.
