Asthma is one of the most prevalent, lifelong chronic disease which afflicts more than 25 million Americans – that’s one in every 13 people. On World Asthma Day, celebrated on Tuesday, May 4, and recognized throughout the entire month, people with asthma and organizations dedicated to asthma control and education join together to increase asthma awareness and to improve care delivery of those living with asthma.
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Asthma Awareness Toolkit
Care teams and patients can utilize components found in the CDC’s Asthma Awareness Month Toolkit to take control of and raise awareness about asthma including guidance on controlling asthma in schools, setting action plans in case of exacerbations, and links to podcasts and videos. - Asthma Resource Center, offered by PRECISION, an unbranded initiative of AstraZeneca Medical Affairs, is dedicated to improving the identification and management of patients with uncontrolled asthma and accelerating the journey toward precision medicine in practice. PRECISION resources include a checklist for physicians to use with patients during clinic visits to help assess and manage asthma, patient resources, and short videos for use with patients or caregivers, and in-depth physician tools for self-directed review.
To support asthma awareness, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) will be hosting a Bite-Sized Learned Session on Sunday, May 9, to discuss innovative validated tools to improve the identification and management of uncontrolled asthma. This member engagement program is sponsored by AstraZeneca, a proud Partner in Health of the OAFP.
