Have you heard about the American Academy of Family Physicians Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute? The AAFP Foundation is offering an outstanding leadership program and the deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 1.
The Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute is a year-long program which builds upon the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students (National Conference) experience by allowing 30 scholars (15 residents and 15 students) the opportunity to participate in leadership training at National Conference and through workshops at the AAFP headquarters.
“The Emerging Leaders Institute provides an unparalleled opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues who are excited about family medicine. The Emerging Leaders Institute, and the National Conference more broadly, was inspiring – never before have I been surrounded by so many people who are as dedicated, passionate, and motivated as the people I met at the Emerging Leaders Institute and National Conference. The Emerging Leaders Institute offers the opportunity to closely engage with the current and future leaders of family medicine, as you learn together, begin crafting your project ideas, and share suggestions and resources to help one another more deeply engage interests. The collaboration continues beyond the weekend as well because each scholar is paired with an AAFP mentor to help with the development and execution of their projects. The AAFP Foundation clearly puts careful thought in selecting mentor/mentee pairs – my mentor was incredibly supportive and has worked on projects similar to mine so is able to provide suggestions and feedback from his own experience. I would highly encourage anyone who is excited about family medicine and looking to meet like-minded, inspiring colleagues to apply!”
