Disparity in Health of Immigrant and Indigenous People will be the focus of November’s Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) Health Equity & Social Justice Discussion Club. The OAFP has created a curated collection of virtual content for you to access which includes links to articles, podcasts, quick videos, and much more. Choose as many resources as you’d like to immerse yourself into the conversation of cultural identity, immigration status, and its impact on health.
Interested in learning more about these marginalized populations?
Option 1: Access the list of Curated Content and follow the prompts for personal and professional awareness building. Participants may pick-and-choose which materials they want to consume from the full list of self-study materials. Participants are encouraged to work through the material at a pace of their choosing. There are plenty of options to choose from!
Option 2: Members may enhance their experience by joining their peers for a virtual discussion on the issue of Disparity in Health of Immigrant and Indigenous People on Thursday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. with moderator Alexander Curtis, MD
This club is a safe and respectful virtual space where members can participate through guided conversations. This session will provide participants a unique opportunity for insightful reflection and open minded sharing.
- What historical trauma is and how it manifests in patients decades later
- Health equity realities physicians need to consider for their immigrant and indigenous patients
- The challenges for documented immigrants and naturalized U.S. citizens to access quality health care.
As an added bonus, members participating in the OAFP’s Health Equity & Social Justice Discussion Club can claim professional enrichment activity continuing medical education (CME) credit simply by attesting to their participation and completing a CME Reporting Form.
This session will take place via Zoom and registration is free and open to all OAFP members as a benefit of membership.
