On August 9, more than 60 Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) members joined in the virtual OAFP Annual Membership Meeting held in lieu of the Family Medicine Celebration, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although a departure from tradition, this format allowed for participation by many members from across Ohio.

Outgoing OAFP President Anna McMaster, MD, was recognized for her dedication and commitment to the OAFP over the past year. As a token of appreciation for her year of service, Dr. McMaster was presented with the framed piano music to Simon and Garfunkel’s famous song, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with a plaque that reads, “Through a year of pandemic virus and racial unrest, you have been our Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Thank you for your unwavering leadership. Ohio Academy of Family Physicians 72nd President. Anna M. McMaster, MD. 2019-2020.” She also received a personalized gavel plaque commemorating her year as OAFP’s president.
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) President Gary LeRoy, MD, provided an AAFP update before installing OAFP’s newly elected officers and its new president, Mike Sevilla, MD. The OAFP looks forward to Dr. Sevilla’s leadership this year!
The meeting continued with the members’ approval of Bylaws revisions AND THE Board’s recommendation for a dues increase in 2022.
The OAFP Board of Directors and staff greatly appreciate the service and sacrifice of all who continue to display profound courage during the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to bringing the family of family medicine together again in 2021!
