The Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) has released its latest policy brief, “Connections between Education and Health No. 3: The Importance of Early Learning.”
In January 2017, HPIO released Connections between Education and Health, the first policy brief in a four-part series. The brief describes the two-way relationship between health and education: People with higher educational attainment generally have better health outcomes and healthier children are more likely to have academic success.
The third brief illustrates the importance of a child’s early years for both health and future educational attainment.
- How early childhood experiences influence health
- Evidence-based early learning and family support programs and polices including home visiting, high-quality early childhood education (e.g., child care, preschool, pre-kindergarten), and social-emotional learning
- The extent to which Ohio is implementing these initiatives
- Policy options to enhance early learning in Ohio.
Additional resources can be found on HPIO’s “Intersections between education and health” online resource page, which will be continuously updated throughout 2017.
