Today, Gov DeWine talked at length about disparities in health for minorities, citing numerous statistics, including pre-coronavirus and those related to the current pandemic. Then Mr. Smitherman spoke and when asked what the state could do to help, the expected and given answer was money. Nowhere in any of this conversation were other racial disparities regarding health mentioned such as out-of-wedlock births, single-parenting, schools dropouts, domestic abuse, crime and respect for authority and the rule of law. Is money the answer to those disparities? Why can’t the Governor, other state officials and minority leaders be honest and recite the entire list of statistics and “data”, not just the ones that avoid the underlying reason for many of the disparities in health outcomes?
