Helping all children thrive, because nutrition matters. In recognition of Global Child Nutrition Month we bring awareness to children at increased risk for malnutrition, including those with food allergies. Pediatric malnutrition diagnosis in the U.S. is increasing although it still often remains underdiagnosed.
About 1 in 13 (nearly 8%) of American children have food allergies. Managing food allergies often requires eliminating common foods such as milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts, or soy, key sources of protein, calcium, vitamin D, and essential fats. Without careful planning, elimination diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies and impaired growth over time. Dietary counseling support along with specialized nutrition options, including hypoallergenic formulas, can help meet nutritional needs by providing balanced protein, micronutrients, and energy, thus supporting healthy growth while easing nutritional management for children and families.
Visit the Abbott Nutrition Health Institute (ANHI) website for food allergy resources including educational handouts, webinars, and a partner podcast designed to support both healthcare professionals and families.
