On August 7, the OAFP Foundation hosted a virtual Family Medicine Party to kick off what would have been the OAFP Family Medicine Celebration weekend.
The casual evening of fun included an overview of Foundation programs; recognition of the 2020 Family Physician Mentorship Award recipient Mary Krebs, MD, FAAFP; fundraising opportunities; and four competitive rounds of trivia! Congratulations to our winning trivia team, Team Smart Quilters!
- Amount of years you’ve been a family physician
- Value of the wine bottle (or other drink of choice) you’re enjoying
- $20 to honor someone that’s been amazing in 2020
- Value of something you’ve given up during quarantine (weekly Starbucks, takeout, gym membership, salon services, etc.)
- $75 to support one day of a student’s stipend in the Preceptorship Program
- $375 to support one week of a student’s stipend in Preceptorship Program.
While members weren’t able to come together in person this year to participate in fundraising activities for Foundation programs, such as the Leroy A. Rodgers, MD, Preceptorship Program, those that joined virtually and others that have contributed so far this year have shown their dedication and support to the future of the family medicine specialty. The Foundation is truly grateful!
One fundraising activity did go on as planned this year even without an in-person annual meeting—the Past Presidents’ Quilt raffle, an annual tradition since 1990. This year’s quilt was handmade and donated by OAFP Past President Sarah Sams, MD, FAAFP, and was again nothing short of beautiful. The winning ticket was drawn during the OAFP Annual Membership Meeting on August 9 and this year’s winner was Anna McMaster, MD. A huge thank you to Dr. Sams for her amazing work. We hear she’s taking color suggestions for next year’s quilt – leave a comment below if you have any suggestions!
