As of late last week, family physicians and American Academy of Family Physician chapters across the country have donated enough money to reach the original goal of purchasing 50 generators for family physicians in Puerto Rico. The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians has contributed $1,000 (the price of one generator).
Contributions (beyond $50,000) will now be used to purchase items like satellite phones, water filtration systems, tarps, etc. Members of the Puerto Rico Academy of Family Physicians are personally accepting and delivering the supplies.
Additional contributions from individuals are welcome and are being processed through the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.
It is estimated that 94% of Puerto Rico was still without power. The need is real and immediate. As always, family medicine is making a difference.
The IAFP Foundation is a 501c3 organization, therefore your donation is tax deductible. It will be covering all transaction fees, which means that 100% of your donation will go toward this effort.
