The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) will be transitioning to a new licensing and renewal website this summer. Currently MD, DO, DPM, and training certificates are on the old system. All allied licenses (including MTs and PAs) are on the new system, eLicense.
Both the old and new systems will be down for extended periods of time during the month of June. Everyone with a July 1 renewal deadline is encouraged to renew NOW. Renewing early does not impact the date of your next renewal, and you will remain on the same renewal cycle.
As allied license holders can attest, the new eLicense will eliminate the need for paper applications and payments via personal checks. The system will provide confirmation of fee payments and application submissions, is available 24/7 and allows for faster application processing.
- Paper applications will not be accepted after Monday, June 19
- Physicians and training certificate holders with a renewal deadline between now and Saturday, July 1, are strongly encouraged to renew their license NOW
- All other license holders with a Sunday, July 1, renewal deadline should consider renewing before Friday, June 2, to avoid system outages.
