Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Immediate Past President Tom Houston, MD, attended the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) meeting held July 20-23 at the French Lick/West Baden Springs Resort. The annual meeting featured a Congress of Delegates (COD) and offered 24 continuing medical education (CME) credits over four days, including two knowledge self-assessments.
Conference organizers departed from tradition and did not have an installation banquet for officers; rather, a reception and dinner was held for past presidents and guests on the opening night (Thursday), with officer installation at the second COD/lunch session on Saturday. An all-member party with a “Wild West” theme and a live band was offered on Saturday night. CME concluded Sunday at noon.
IAFP business was handled with two board meetings, one on Friday and the second one after the installation of new officers. The chapter has begun to use a “virtual” format for its regular board meetings, so these face-to-face gatherings at the annual meeting are an important time for them to get to know each other.
Teresa Lovins, MD, became IAFP president for the second time, having served originally in 2009. The president-elect had abruptly resigned for personal reasons, and she was asked by the board to step into the position. Indiana will be running Windel Stracener, MD, for American Academy of Family Physicians Board director this year; Dr. Stracener plans to attend the OAFP Members Assembly Saturday-Sunday, August 12-13.
