On August 18, Ryan Kauffman, MD, of Bellefontaine, OH, was honored with the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ Torchlight Leadership Award. Dr. Kauffman received the award during the Academy Awards Dinner as part of the Family Medicine Celebration.
The Torchlight Leadership Award honors a leader who best champions the mission and the vision of the OAFP. As an active leader of the Academy, Dr. Kauffman has served on the Board of Directors as a resident member, and within every leadership position other than treasurer on his way to becoming president of the OAFP.
During his service, he has always been willing to jump in whenever help was needed, but most notably, Dr. Kauffman has championed the development of the Academy’s quality improvement modules on hypertension, breast and cervical cancer, and diabetes – an endeavor that began in 2014 and is still going strong today.
As an added component of the quality improvement hypertension module, he helped create a video (with more than 300K views on YouTube) on the proper way to take blood pressure measurements. He has also led the OAFP’s American Board of Family Medicine-endorsed live knowledge self-assessment group learning sessions at the annual meeting since 2010 and at the Family Medicine Workshop since 2017. These accomplishments certainly have supported the OAFP’s Quality Improvement, CME and Population Health Strategic Plan Pillar.
In addition, he serves on the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Continuing Professional Development and is the current chair and a prolific question writer for the Core Content Review of Family Medicine.
Dr. Kaufmann truly embodies all that the OAFP espouses in regards to leadership.
Congratulations, Dr. Kauffman!
