The Ohio State Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (Ohio ACOFP) presented its Family Physician of the Year Award to Douglas W. Harley, DO, of Akron, OH, during an awards reception held on April 22 at the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium at the Hilton Columbus at Easton Town Center.
Dr. Harley serves on the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors as an at-large director, and is the chair of the OAFP Foundation Board of Trustees.
Dr. Harley was honored for not only his excellence in clinical practice, but also for his involvement within the community, participation in Ohio ACOFP activities, dedication to advancing the philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine, and his overall support for family medicine.
The statewide award was presented by Ohio ACOFP President Edward E. Hosbach II, DO, of Ft. Recovery, OH. When presenting the award Dr. Hosbach cited Dr. Harley’s passion for medical education.
“He is an inspiring leader and encourages those around him—medical students, patients, colleagues—to strive for excellence,” he said. “He is passionate about family medicine and embraces the team approach.”
Dr. Harley, who resides in Fowler, OH, is affiliated with Akron General Canal Physician Group and teaches medical residents as part of the family medicine residency program staff. Prior to that, he worked at a federally qualified health center in Youngstown, OH.
He is also a past president of Ohio ACOFP, serves on the Ohio Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees, and is an officer for the Akron-Canton District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine.
