The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) would like to congratulate resident member Cody Klinker, MD, on receiving the Edward T. Bope, MD, Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Bope led the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program as programdirector from 1985 to 2010, serving in numerous national roles furthering the field of family medicine while doing so. The Edward T. Bope, MD, Distinguished Service Award was established in 2011 to recognize a senior resident who has shown outstanding commitment to service in family medicine.
It was a great honor to be selected for the Edward T. Bope, MD, Distinguished Service Award. It is and always has been a great joy to serve others, which has provided me with the energy to be engaged in so many ways. From working in our local communities to advocating for family medicine in Washington, D.C., I know that these opportunities have shaped me into a more well-rounded family physician. I am grateful for all those individuals and organizations who have allowed me to be so involved and allow me to find my passion for service. I plan to continue to play an active role in service and advocacy as I finish residency and transition to an attending family medicine physician!
This award was also special because the program and awards committee asked me to give a speech about my experiences in journey and advocacy. I titled my speech “Service with Purpose: My Journey and Insights.” It was an incredible feeling to be able to talk about my experiences with my faculty, fellow residents, and office staff. It is my hope that through that lecture, I have inspired others to take some next steps in service or advocacy.
Congratulations, Dr. Klinker!
