Brian Bachelder, MD, FAAFP, has been appointed to serve as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Education for a four-year term that began on December 15, 2016.
The Commission on Education is one of seven commissions that direct AAFP policies and programs. This commission provides a venue for the development of recommended policy and the dissemination of expertise and new information related to the education and professional development of family physicians until completion of the residency training period. Its priority areas include workforce, student interest/student choice, student and resident issues, curriculum, planning the National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students, global family medicine, and educational awards.
After 25 years in solo rural practice in Mount Gilead, OH, Dr. Bachelder is now clinical associate director of family medicine at the Center for Family Medicine at Akron General Hospital. Dr. Bachelder’s national service already includes a five-year term on the AAFP Commission on Quality (fifth year as chair) and a three-year term on the AAFP Commission on Membership and Member Services. An Ohio Academy of Family Physicians past president, Dr. Bachelder served five years as alternate delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates from Ohio, is currently serving as president of the Ohio State Medical Association, and is an at-large director on the OAFP Board of Directors.
