The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) will be holding DEA DATA 2000 waiver trainings for physicians, third-year resident physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners across Ohio. These 1.5 day trainings are free and will fulfill the requirements for physicians to become waivered to prescribe medication assisted treatment (MAT). Nurse practitioners and physician assistants will have an additional online training component.
OhioMHAS has partnered with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to provide the training. Two ASAM trainers will deliver the first day of training. The second day will be a half-day with speakers presenting on implementation of MAT in practice. A DEA agent will present on the audit process and DEA guidelines, an expert will present on SBIRT and motivational interviewing, and there will also be presentations on low dose prescribing and referral to treatment in the local area.
Physicians who attend the training, obtain their waiver, and apply for reimbursement on time will receive a $1,300 reimbursement for their time. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants who attend the training, obtain their waiver, complete the online component and apply for reimbursement on time will receive $750 for attending the training.
The OhioMHAS Workforce Development page has a calendar which contains a link for all of the currently scheduled trainings.
