The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) partners with a national non-profit organization, Healthy Birth Day, and its Count the Kicks campaign to provide free educational materials for maternal and child health professionals. The evidence-informed Count the Kicks campaign helps educate expectant moms on how to monitor fetal movements during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Expectant moms can track their baby’s movements once a day during the third trimester and learn how long it normally takes her baby to get to 10 movements. Moms will start to notice a pattern, a normal amount of time it takes her baby to get to 10. If “normal” changes during the third trimester, this could be a sign of potential problems and an indication to call her physician or other health care professional.
You can help educate and empower pregnant women to Count the Kicks by ordering free educational materials – brochures, posters and app download reminder cards – online. Count the Kicks also offers a free kick-counting app that allows expectant moms to enter and save their kick-counting data history. The app is available in Google Play and iTunes online stores in 12 languages.
