On October 17, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians held its latest Wellness Wednesdays webinar that focused participants on how to cope with the emotional impact of adverse patient outcomes.
For those who were not able to join the session, the program was recorded and has been archived on the OAFP website. Provided in the archive are several online articles and videos that address valuable issues of psychological staging of grief that physicians go through after an adverse patient event, the hallmarks of second victim syndrome, and other tools that emphasis your own wellbeing.
The Academy’s Wellness Wednesdays program is a structured, bi-monthly webinar series that focuses on enhancing professional and personal wellness. Creation of the series is the result of the OAFP’s Joy of Medicine Workgroup – a group of volunteer physicians tasked to champion the strategic objective of bringing back the joy to family medicine.
If you have not registered already, there is still space available for the next Wellness Wednesdays webinar set for Wednesday, December 12, titled, “Reframing Perspective: Harnessing the Power of Giving Others the Power of the Doubt.” By title alone, it sounds like a terrific session for the holiday season!
The program will be facilitated by a licensed professional clinical counselor from the Ohio Physicians Health Program (OPHP), is offered for free, and scheduled over the typical lunch hour, 12:15-1:00 p.m.
Other resources for improving physician wellness and beating burnout are available through the OAFP website.
