The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians continues to work with the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) seeking revisions to the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy’s (SOBP) compounding rules that have been submitted to the Common Sense Initiative. Jennifer Hayhurst of the OSMA shared a summary of her last conversation with Cameron McNamee at the SOBP about the current status of the compounding rules.
In very basic terms, the newly drafted compounding rule will exempt drug reconstitution, drug device preparation, and drug dilution (when administered one hour after preparation). The immediate use rule continues to place a 6-hour time limit on compounding activities performed under that rule. The record keeping rule only applies to compounding activities that are not exempt. Low risk compounding procedures (ex, buffering lidocaine) are not exempt.
Efforts to eliminate unnecessary administrative burdens relative to the compounding rules drafted by the SOBP continue.
Can you tell me if the compounding rule includes allergy antigens.
Thank You,Tonya
