The Central Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (COAFP), representing family physicians, residents, and student in 15 Ohio counties, held its annual meeting on June 10 at the Olentangy Indian Caverns.
The COAFP historically chooses a family friendly venue to easily involve members and their families in the day’s activities. During the meeting and presentation family members have the option to explore an activity at the venue or remain at the meeting and presentation.
Each year, the COAFP asks third-year residents to submit their grand rounds research projects to be considered for presentation during the annual meeting’s John E. Verhoff, MD, Memorial Lecture. The presentations are scored by family physicians outside of central Ohio. This year’s winner was Matthew A. Adkins, DO, of the Grant Family Medicine Residency Program, Columbus, OH. His project and lecture was titled PReP: Reducing HIV Transmission. Physicians learned valuable tips for patient conversations, treatment details, and pre-exposure prophylaxis pharmaceutical specifics.
