The House and Senate ended a 3-day government shutdown on January 22 passing a stopgap spending bill that will reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for 6 years and keep the government funded through Thursday, February 8.
The Senate voted 81-18 for the bill, known as a “continuing resolution,” in the late afternoon on January 22, and the House followed suit a little while later, voting 266-150 in favor.
The American Academy of Family Physicians and other children’s health advocates had been calling on Congress to reauthorize CHIP for months.
There are approximately 220,000 children enrolled through CHIP in Ohio.
