Forty-seven chiefs participated in the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) Chief Resident Workshop on Saturday, May 16. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, attendees participated in the workshop virtually, a first for the OAFP. These chiefs represented twenty-five residency programs from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Washington, DC. This year’s workshop attendance more than doubled the average attendance numbers from 2019 and 2018, and welcomed several residency programs to the OAFP workshop for the first time. The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and California Academy of Family Physicians participated in the conference to gain insights for their virtual programming as well.
Nathaniel Overmire, DO, presented material on the role of a chief, leadership styles, and communication advice, and led discussions on conflict resolution and common chief issues. Attendees also participated in a Q&A session with outgoing chiefs Hiten Patel, MD, and Kelly Thibert, DO; heard a leadership message from AAFP President Gary LeRoy, MD, FAAFP; and participated in small group discussions via Zoom.
