In April 2021, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) hosted the webinar Challenging Race-Based Medicine in Practice to help learners understand the origins of race-based medicine, the implications of conflating race with genetic ancestry, identify the racist underpinnings of many commonly practiced treatment plans and diagnosed diseases, and set a plan for meaningful change that will help advance true health equity.
Joseph Betancourt, MD, MPH, led attendees through each of these objectives while offering personal experience and examples from Massachusetts General Hospital. OAFP member Roma Amin, MD, moderated the 30-minute Q&A session following the 60-minute presentation.
If you missed this webinar, no worries! It is now available On Demand to OAFP members and approved for Enduring Materials, Self-Study Prescribed continuing medical education (CME) credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Purchases can be made directly on the OAFP website, and access to the recording will be supplied automatically via email once the purchase is complete. This opportunity is available exclusively to Ohio members through Sunday, May 15.
