January was Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and national awareness months remind us of the importance to talk about prevention and early detection. The Ohio Partners for Cancer Control (OPCC) has put together an eye-opening report, Cancers Associated with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in Ohio 2023, with important insights for the community.
In 2021, 69% of Ohio females and 56% of Ohio males aged 13-17 were up-to-date on their HPV vaccine—but there’s still work to do to reach the 80% goal set by Healthy People 2030. Ohio’s incidence rate for HPV-associated cancers is 11% higher than the national average, making prevention more critical than ever.
The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ EasyPI: HPV Vaccination track is here to help physicians and their teams improve vaccination rates and protect more patients. Check out the full report linked above and all of the supporting resources, webinars, and articles available on the EasyPI track. Let’s work together to fight cervical cancer and all forms of cancer that is caused by HPV.
