The next session of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) Bite-Sized Learning program is set for Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. and is titled “Unburdening Asthma: Simple Insights into a Challenging Problem.” Members can join the conversation by logging on to the OAFP’s Facebook page, or YouTube channel to watch and ask questions live.
Moderated by OAFP Past President Mike Sevilla, MD, FAAFP, this session will feature Demondes Haynes, MD, MS, FCCP, professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and associate dean for admissions for The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s School of Medicine. Prior to becoming associate dean for medical school admissions, he served in several leadership roles in the department of medicine including vice chair for clinical affairs and the executive vice chair.
Join Drs. Haynes and Sevilla as they discuss the burden of asthma in the United States and the role that severe exacerbations play. Attendees will gain an increased understanding of the mechanisms of disease associated with the variability of airway inflammation, asthma symptoms, and exacerbations; patient preferences for immediate symptom relief; and the risk of adverse health conditions associated with even short courses of oral corticosteroids.
Recent recommendations from the Global Initiative for Asthma and the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program will be reviewed within the context of recognizing that a Window of Opportunity may exist to address pre-exacerbation inflammation, symptoms, and severe exacerbations for all patients with asthma.
We hope to see you Sunday, May 1, to kick off National Asthma and Allergy Awareness month and to learn more!
This session is sponsored by AstraZeneca, a proud Partner in Health of the OAFP.
The learning sessions will be recorded and available on the OAFP’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and the OAFP website for future viewing.
