The next session of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians’ (OAFP) Bite-Sized Learning program is set for Sunday, March 20, at 7 p.m. This week’s session is titled “The Fentanyl Generation.” Members can join the conversation by logging on to the OAFP’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, or Twitter page to watch live.
Moderated by OAFP Past President Mike Sevilla, MD, FAAFP, this session will feature Beth Weinstock, MD, a family physician at Equitas Health in Columbus, OH, and a mother of four whose eldest son, Eli, died in March of 2021 when he unintentionally ingested fentanyl. This conversation is follow-up to Dr. Weinstock’s article in The Ohio Family Physician; spring 2022 edition, with the same title, “The Fentanyl Generation.”
Dr. Weinstock will share her story of grief and how it has led her to a new mission in life. In September 2021, Dr. Weinstock and her daughter launched the non-profit BirdieLight, to educate parents and young people on ways to reduce the harms posed by fentanyl use.
Drs. Weinstock and Sevilla will discuss the alarming data around fentanyl-related deaths and share information and tips on what family physicians can do to help counter these trends.
Join us Sunday to learn more, add comments, and ask questions live!
The learning sessions will be recorded and available on the OAFP’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and the OAFP website for future viewing.
