Imagine a community where every youth and teen feel seen, supported, and safe. By becoming a Store It Safe (SIS) Designated Community, like Beachwood and Cincinnati, you are not just adopting a title, you are building a movement. This designation means real action: securing lethal means, educating families, and creating environments where help is easy to find and where stigma has no home.
It is a bold step toward protecting our most valuable resource – our children.
The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) represents nearly 2,900 pediatricians and pediatricians-in-training, promotes the health, safety, and well-being of children and adolescents so they may reach their full potential. The Ohio AAP works to accomplish this by addressing the needs of children, their families, and their communities through advocacy, education, research, service, and improving the systems through which they deliver pediatric care. The Store It Safe (SIS) Coalition, created and led by the Ohio AAP since 2015, is a group of pediatric healthcare providers, education professionals, firearm safety experts, mental health and suicide prevention experts, law enforcement, state and local government and community organizations that have joined together to help reverse the trend of irreversible actions. And by keeping Ohio’s children safe from intentional and unintentional firearm deaths and teens safe from suicide.
This includes the safe storage of lethal means and a dedicated commitment to protecting kids and teens through safe storage of firearms, medications, cannabis, and alcohol.
The goal is to inform families and caregivers of risks so they can keep their children safe.
The Ohio AAP can help your city, town, or village become a community that leads with hope and chooses prevention, compassion, and life.
