The Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program is set to expire Monday, September 30. This program is vital to addressing the shortage of primary care physicians and increases the number of physicians who serve in medically underserved and/or rural communities (64% of THCGME graduates are practicing in primary care settings and 58% are practicing in medically-underserved and/or rural communities). This funding uncertainty jeopardizes the program’s future and threatens the primary care physician pipeline.
The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians is joining the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in calling on Congress to pass legislation reauthorizing the funding immediately. Please utilize the AAFP SpeakOut system to express your support for the THCGME program.
