Ohio’s Medicaid managed care plans (MCPs) are working with the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) to improve diabetes care.
Specifically, the MCPs are implementing policy changes such as:
- ODM and Medicaid MCPs are now allowing diabetes self-management education as a covered benefit.
- The Medicaid MCPs are making it easier for providers and members to obtain diabetes testing supplies. The plans have agreed on a consistent, simpler prior authorization process. Plans are working with vendors and pharmacists to make them available at drugstores, eliminating the need to order from specialty companies.
The Ohio Association of Health Plans issued a release providing additional information about these policy changes and goals.
