At the invitation of President Donald Trump, American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) President Gary LeRoy, MD, FAAFP, was at the White House on November 22 discussing the perils of e-cigarettes and vaping and the scourge of flavored nicotine products on our country’s youth.
Dr. LeRoy represented the AAFP alongside his colleagues from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Medical Association (AMA). The goal was to impress upon the President and members of the vaping industry the urgency to act now to save a generation of children from addiction.
The AAFP has a strong history of supporting robust and comprehensive regulation of all tobacco and nicotine products, including nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), by the Food and Drug Administration. The November 22 meeting was an opportunity for the AAFP, the AAP, and the AMA to present a unified and bold front on this critical public health issue.
