After careful consideration of information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) experts, the AAFP has decided to cancel the Annual Chapter Leader Forum/National Conference of Constituency Leaders (ACLF/NCCL), the Family Medicine Advocacy Summit, and the Summer Cluster meetings. The AAFP wants our members to remain in their communities on the front lines of this COVID-19 crisis, and feels it is our responsibility to exercise social distancing and limit spread of the disease. Registrants for each of these meetings will be notified as soon as possible. Full refunds of registration fees will be issued to all registrants over the next 30 days or so.
For NCCL, the AAFP is exploring how to handle the election of NCCL delegates to the Congress of Delegates, as well as the American Medical Association (AMA) Young Physicians Section (YPS) delegate. More information will be forthcoming in a few weeks on this important issue. There will not be an opportunity this year for the development and consideration of resolutions so delegates and other members who would have attended NCCL will be encouraged to work through their chapter if they believe they have an issue that needs considered.
- Cancel the event
- Cancel the in-person meeting and offer a digital option, or
- Cancel the in-person meeting with alternatives being explored.
Regardless of the options available, registrants will have a choice in how the AAFP handles their situation. Look for more information on the AAFP website soon. The AAFP will provide regular updates on this information over the coming weeks. The AAFP will make a determination regarding meetings beyond Sunday, May 31, by the end of April to ensure our members receive plenty of notice.
