Thirty scholars will be given a $1,000 scholarship to attend the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute (ELI) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students (National Conference) Thursday-Saturday, July 28-31, 2022.
Scholars choose one of three leadership development tracks: Policy & Public Health Leadership, Personal & Practice Leadership, and Philanthropic & Mission-Driven Leadership. Following the in-depth leadership and project management workshops, participants work with a family physician mentor to develop a project related to their track of study.
Projects are evaluated by family physicians, with a Project Award given to the top three projects in each track. Those winners receive an additional $1,000 scholarship to return as a presenter at the following year’s National Conference. One Project Award winner in each track will also be awarded the Best Project Award. Those winners receive an additional $3,000 scholarship to participate in a special experience related to their track.
Applications for the AAFP Foundation Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute are open Wednesday, December 15, 2021, through Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Family medicine residents entering their first or second year and medical students entering their second, third, or fourth year when the program begins are eligible to apply.
