The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) are seeking applications from AAFP members to participate in a yearlong health equity fellowship. The 2020-21 AAFP Health Equity Fellowship is designed to develop family physicians into leaders who have subject-matter expertise in the social, institutional, and cultural influences that impact health.
Currently, interested members can apply to one of three tracks: rural health, academic medicine, or traditional. Each track has curriculum, faculty, and events customized to address a topic of significant relevance to family medicine.
Through the program, fellows will gain knowledge and experience in translating the concepts of health equity into clinical practice. Fellows will learn from leading experts in the fields of medical education, research, public health, and health care policy. After the yearlong fellowship, participants will be equipped to facilitate change to improve their local communities and primary care.
The application deadline is Thursday, October 1. To apply, complete the AAFP’s conflict of interest form and application on the AAFP website.
Applications must include a curriculum vitae (CV), letter of interest, a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant’s skills in addressing the social determinants of health, and a letter of support from the applicant’s institution, practice, or department chair.
