Breaking Down Barriers: How Family Physicians Can Advance Access in Complex Systems

With looming changes to access to care and many facing financial challenges, the work of health equity has expanded. Regardless of patient background or circumstances, ensuring all have access to healthcare and the ability to live a healthy life is a priority for family physicians across the country.

In December 2025, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians hosted an interactive webinar with Nanette Lacuesta-Kimmel, MD, exploring the real-life impact of health equity within multiple practice settings and Robert Saper, MD, sharing strategies for expanding access to care for patients. Together, with expert moderation, we unpacked challenges, share solutions, and sparked ideas you could bring back to your own practice and community.
