The network of Pride clinics is dedicated to serving those in the LGBTQI+ community and provides a safe place for individuals to go to receive primary care, STI testing, HIV prevention, OB-GYN care, and hormone therapy.

Dr. Frenck is an infectious diseases researcher at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where he serves as the director of the Gamble Center for Clinical Research, assessing new vaccines and agents designed to prevent infections.

This topic comes at an interesting crossroads. As development of a COVID-19 vaccine continues to advance and as the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) launches a new campaign focused on immunizations and vaccines, now is the time to update knowledge and armor up to have important conversations with patients and parents!

The duo discusses everything from immunizations and vaccines, to vaccine confidence and motivational interviewing. They also share information on the AAFP campaign and the TIES program.

Dr. Cullen has practiced full scope of family medicine in a rural community of 4,000 people in Alaska for more than 25 years. He works in an independent, small group practice and is director of emergency medical services at Providence Valdez Medical Center where he also provides maternity and inpatient care.

Dr. LeRoy has been a member of the AAFP since 1991. He has served in many leadership roles at both the state and national levels leading to the ultimate position of AAFP President.

Dr. Jones recently published the book Fallible: A Memoir of a Young Physician’s Struggle with Mental Illness. Through authoring this book and participating in conversations and presentations like the Bite-Sized Learning program, Dr. Jones hopes to dispel the stigma of talking about mental illness, especially in the family physician community.

Dr. Lewis was admitted to the hospital on April 2 after testing positive for COVID-19. After nearly 40 days in the hospital including time on a ventilator, Dr. Lewis is finally home, spending time with his family, and slowly getting back to work. He is also making it a point to share his story of being on the other side of the physician/patient relationship – providing a new perspective on an illness that is affecting the world.

In an interview with USA Today on July 14, Dr. Lewis shared, “Coronavirus does not respect your person. You don’t have to be elderly…it’s an apolitical virus that can strike anyone. While there are certain risk factors that may predispose some people to being more ill than others, it can strike people like myself that otherwise were healthy.”

Dr. Lewis shares his story from how it started, what it was like going from physician to patient, navigating recovery and what’s ahead, and how his experience has led to advocacy nationwide.

Most recently, she was interviewed by NBCLX on the issue of COVID-19 cases spiking among people aged 20 to 44. During the interview, she explains how social gatherings are leading to increases in cases. Additionally, Dr. Bhuyan was interviewed and quoted in an article by Fox10 Phoenix on what Arizona needs to do as a state to stop the spread.

Drs. Bhuyan and Sevilla discuss how, now more than ever, family physicians have the unique and important role of educating, advocating, and advising the communities in which they serve on issues such as COVID-19. Using social media platforms and engaging in media interviews is just one way to leverage that role. Listen in and learn from Dr. Bhuyan how you can do it too!

Dr. Crichlow’s clinic was affected during the Minneapolis demonstrations in May. From that experience, she and another family physician, Andrea Westby, MD, authored the article Our Minneapolis Clinic was Ransacked and Damaged after the Murder of George Floyd. We’re not Mad (at Protestors).

Drs. Crichlow and Sevilla have an honest conversation about family medicine and social justice with a focus on advocacy, leadership, social determinants of health, and racism’s contribution to health and social inequalities.

During the session, Dr. Thibert describes her journey in medicine thus far, discusses what her leadership roles have taught her, and what she hopes to pass on to future medical students and residents. As a member of the AAFP Board of Directors, Dr. Thibert also talks about changes to the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students and what the new virtual format will include.

Also joining the conversation is Shaina Rood, Dr. Rood’s daughter and fourth year medical student at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Guest speakers include Foundation Chair Pennie Marchetti, MD, a family physician in Hudson, OH, and Keith Lehman, MD, current Foundation trustee, past Foundation chair, and family physician in Archbold, OH.

As a solo family physician at a federally qualified health center in Lebanon, OH, Dr. Krebs knows firsthand about rural health care issues. Listen as she shares her story of utilizing telemedicine to care for patients while coping with her own COVID-19 diagnosis. She also provides additional insight into the complexities of rural medicine, especially during a pandemic.

He concludes his presentation with information on the White Coats for Black Lives movement and shares data around health disparities specific to race.

Plus, he explained how he turned this practice change into credit towards his American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Family Medicine Certification activity requirements through the new ABFM COVID-19 Self-Directed pathway option and shared his Step-by-Step Instructions to Submit a Practice Change for ABFM Credit.
