To address the health disparity found in the Fairfax neighborhood of Cleveland, OH, Varun’s project focuses on the aspects of loneliness amongst seniors and building clinician-patient partnership through meaningful conversation with StoryCorps Connect, an online platform designed for distanced interaction. The goal of the project is to utilize StoryCorps discussion led by open-ended questions to develop bi-directional understanding and to re-imagine solutions to current health disparities. |

Dr. O’Gurek practices comprehensive outpatient family medicine, as well as medical director of the TRUST Clinic, an office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) program for patients who have opioid use disorder (OUD). He also serves as director of Begin the Turn, a community-based, multidisciplinary mobile care unit serving patients with OUD and homelessness in North Philadelphia.
Dr. O’Gurek provides insights and information on the national overdose crisis, guidelines on prescribing, and valuable explanations on information from the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) new Chronic Pain Management Toolkit. The AAFP Chronic Pain Toolkit, developed by the Academy with partial funding from a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant and published online in February, provides family physicians with an assortment of items to aid in the effective assessment, diagnosis, and management of chronic pain. |

Dr. McDonald is a family medicine and sports medicine certified family physician at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, CA. He is very active on social media and helped to start the #ThisIsOurShot campaign. Dr. Krebs is the medical director of primary care at Cohere Health and provides insight into her experience receiving the vaccine and what Ohioans can expect. #ThisIsOurShot is a grassroots coalition of healthcare workers whose mission is to elevate voices of healthcare heroes to build vaccine-trusts towards a COIVD-free world. They are mobilizing physicians and healthcare workers in a national grassroots campaign as trusted vaccine messengers with fidelity to science and evidence. The goal is to catalyze critical public confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine, especially amongst communities of color, younger individuals, and lower socioeconomic populations.
