Approaches to Brain Health Conversation and Assessment for Older Adults and Their Care Partners
An estimated 236,200 people in Ohio over age 65 have Alzheimer’s Disease and 11.6% of all Ohioans ages 45 and older report experiencing cognitive decline during the past 12 months. However, more than half (51%) of Ohio adults experiencing cognitive decline report they have never discussed their confusion or memory loss with a healthcare professional.
On January 22, 2025, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) hosted a webinar where attendees learned more about family physicians’ critical role in assessing cognitive decline, effectively communicating and discussing brain health with older adults and their care partners, and referring their patients to community services and other supports.
Led by expert speaker Janine Overcash, CNP-APRN, FAANP, FAAN, from the Golden Buckeye Center for Dementia Caregiving, and professor of clinical nursing at The Ohio State University and co-director of the Academy for Teaching Innovation, Excellence, and Scholarship, the session was recorded and is available below for enduring continuing medical education credit through Saturday, February 28, 2026.
