Mike Sevilla, MD, FAAFP, Installed as 2020-21 OAFP President

Mike Sevilla, MD, FAAFP, was virtually sworn-in as the 2020-21 president of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) during its virtual Annual Membership Meeting, held in lieu of the Family Medicine Celebration which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Sevilla has held numerous leadership positions since joining the OAFP in 2001. He previously served on the Board of Directors as president-elect, vice president, speaker, vice speaker, and as an at-large director. He has also served on multiple committees including national action, finance, and public policy.

Dr. Sevilla has a defining social media presence and actively posts content to his website, blog, and his Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages. He has given several presentations and interviews on the importance of social media and medicine, encouraging physicians to begin utilizing social media as a means to connect with, and educate, their communities.

During his address, Dr. Sevilla discussed his family medicine journey, the challenges family physicians currently face, and the importance of advocacy and empowerment in today’s unprecedented times.

He concluded his address saying, “I am honored and I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your OAFP president over this next year. Educate. Communicate. And Advocate. ‘Be the change you want to see in this world.’”

Dr. Sevilla earned his medical degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Rootstown, OH, in 1998 and completed his residency at Barberton Citizens Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Barberton, OH, in 2001.

Dr. Sevilla is currently in private practice at the Family Practice Center of Salem in Salem, OH, and serves on the Board of Directors at the Salem Regional Medical Center. He is also an associate professor of family and community medicine at NEOMED.

The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians is a statewide, professional association with more than 5,200 members, including practicing physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students.
