Update to Allowable Charges for Copying Medical Records for 2010Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has released updated amounts that health care providers can charge for copying medical records in 2010. The Ohio Revised Code requires that ODH use the Consumer Price Index to determine the amount of increase or decrease in costs for providing medical records. The decrease for 2010 is a -0.36 percent decrease from 2009. The following are amounts hospitals and companies can charge for copying medical records in 2010:
With respect to data recorded on something other than paper, the maximum charge is $1.93 per page. If the request is made by an entity other than the patient or the patient’s personal representative, total costs for copies and all services related to those copies shall not exceed the sum of the following:
