The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians hosted a meeting of the Ohio Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (OPCPCC) Workforce Learning Center on March 30. The Workforce Learning Center was formerly known as the Patient-Centered Primary Care (PCMH) Education Advisory Group (EAG). Jon Seager, MD, and Ted Wymyslo, MD, are OAFP’s official representatives on the workforce learning center.
The group met with Rebecca Watts, PhD, associate vice chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education (formerly the Ohio Board of Regents) to discuss the future of the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program for Primary Care.
The Workforce Learning Center discussed plans for an inter-professional curriculum reform conference which will be held on Friday, June 3, on the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati. The conference will feature presentations on efforts to transform health care delivery to a culture of inter-professional collaboration that meets triple aim goals to enhance the patient’s experience and improve health outcomes at lower cost. The conference keynote speaker will be Rear Admiral Pam Schweitzer, U.S. assistant surgeon general, who will be delivering an address on “Enabling the Future of Health Care Outcomes and Practices – a National Perspective.”
The group received an update on the State Innovation Model grant and discussed sustainability of the EAG pilot program sites for education of medical students. In addition, continuation of curriculum work and expansion of scholarships remain on the table as future action items.
Dr. Janice Spaulding of NEOMED provided an overview of their Integrated Community Psychiatry and Primary Care Fellowship Program. The one-year, post-residency training program is offered to graduates of an ACGME-accredited program in psychiatry or primary care.
The next meeting of the OPCPCC Workforce Learning Center will be held on Wednesday, August 31, at the OAFP office.
