The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians has nominated Renee Markovich, MD, for appointment to a three-year term as chapter trustee on the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Board of Trustees.
In his letter of chapter support, OAFP President Ryan Kauffman, MD, wrote:
“As a past chair of the OAFP Foundation and past recipient of the OAFP Foundation’s Philanthropist of the Year award, Dr. Markovich not only understands the philanthropic, educational, and humanitarian aspects of family medicine, she has successfully led the fundraising and philanthropic efforts of a chapter foundation. In addition to her service to the OAFP Foundation as chair (2012-13), she served two terms as an OAFP Foundation trustee (from 2000-03 and from 2009-11). That service shows her passion for philanthropic work particularly with regard to improving and increasing access to quality health care through student choice of family medicine as a career specialty. Her past service at the chapter level gives her the leadership skills and experience needed to successfully advance the mission of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees.
The OAFP Foundation named Dr. Markovich and her parents as its Philanthropists of the Year in 2014 in recognition of the family affair fundraising for our state chapter foundation has become for the Markovich family. Dr. Markovich has the energy and motivation to encourage others to contribute to worthy causes. The AAFP Foundation aims to improve the health of all people. The AAFP Foundation aims to improve the health of all people. She leads by example as she not only serves but personally contributes. She has a successful track record in recruiting other donors. She would make the case to potential donors – making them see how their financial support of the AAFP Foundation helps achieving the AAFP Foundation’s mission of improving the health of all people.
In addition to her outstanding work with the OAFP Foundation, Dr. Markovich has served both the AAFP and the OAFP in other important roles. Dr. Markovich served a four-year term on the AAFP Commission on Continuing Professional Development. She was elected to serve as new physician alternate delegate/delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates in 2000 and 2001. She is an OAFP past president and is currently one of Ohio’s delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.
Professionally, Dr. Markovich is deeply committed to teaching and training the next generation of family physicians in her current role as the clinical associate director at the Akron General Center for Family Medicine Residency Program. Past and current residents praise Dr. Markovich for her mentorship, dedication, and passion in guiding them in their career path. She is known for not only demonstrating leadership to her residents in clinic but involves them in chapter and foundation leadership at the state level. At each Academy event and committee meeting she attends, she always brings a resident or two to participate alongside her – again leading by example.”
Congratulations and good luck, Dr. Markovich!
Great letter about a great person and advocate. Best of luck, Renee.
