As a member of OAFP, medical students have the opportunity to participate in OAFP activities including the Family Medicine Student Retreat, among others; participate in discussions with peers in special interest listservs; network with the family physician community; and receive OAFP publications. In addition, leadership opportunities for medical students exist to contribute to OAFP’s work to better serve Ohio’s medical students. The following position descriptions and requirements describe these leadership opportunities. If you have questions or need more information on any of these opportunities or requirements, send an e-mail to students@ohioafp.org. Chair and Vice Chair of the Student Affairs Committee
Elections held annually at the Family Medicine Student Retreat. Student Delegates to the OAFP Members Assembly The Student Affairs Committee will select five student delegates to represent the student membership constituency at the OAFP Members Assembly held each August. All delegates will have full-floor privileges, including voting, at the OAFP Members Assembly. All delegates are required to attend the Members Assembly to hear discussion on a variety of issues. Delegates also may be selected to serve on reference committees where resolutions are discussed in detail before being voted upon by the Members Assembly. Delegates have the opportunity to vote on each issue with input from other attendees from the student constituency. All delegates are encouraged to prepare summary reports of their experiences to be presented at the Student Affairs Committee meeting in the fall. In addition to attending the OAFP Members Assembly, the delegate and alternate delegate are assumed to be part of the OAFP student leadership and will be encouraged to assist the co-chairs of the Student Affairs Committee if called upon. The elected delegates will be expected to participate in an in-person meeting or conference call following the retreat both as an orientation and as a review of the previous leadership's term for the newly elected OAFP student leadership.
