This summer, Ohio’s “family” of family physicians reunites to connect, recharge, and reignite the passion that makes family medicine so great!

Whether your aim is to earn continuing medical education (CME), take part in policy setting discussions, celebrate a year of family medicine achievements, or simply to have fun, the Members Assembly is for you.

9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Burnout Proof Live Workshop: Lower Stress, Build Life Balance, and a More Ideal Practice

An interactive, high energy workshop that teaches physicians how to recognize and prevent burnout, lower stress, and build a more balanced life. Participants will learn and practice the six most impactful stress relief tools including the ideal job description process, schedule hack, and boundary ritual. Participants will also receive access to the Burnout Prevention Matrix Report with 117 burnout prevention tools. This is a can’t miss event!

10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The Art of Gratitude

Studies have shown that practicing gratitude on a regular basis improves physical and psychological health, enhances empathy, and lowers aggression. Grateful people even sleep better! During this session, members will have the opportunity to write a thank you note to a mentor, colleague, or individual who has positively influenced their lives.

11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Tips for Keeping Positive in Our Complex Health Care World: Member Panel

Whether you are a medical student, a resident in training, or a well-seasoned family physician, staying emotionally and physically well can be a challenge. Hear a panel of your peers share their personal insights on how they keep the joy of family medicine alive and well.

Panelists: Anna Askari (student); Tricia Olaes, MD (resident); Scott Morris, DO (new to practice family physician); and Stephen Ulrich, MD, FAAFP (seasoned family physician)

Dine with your family medicine colleagues and hear brief remarks from American Academy of Family Physicians Board Director Lynne Lillie, MD, and OAFP Speaker Mike Sevilla, MD. In addition, the OAFP Nominating Committee will present their slate of candidates and the Assembly will elect their new officers during the luncheon.

1:00 – 1:45 p.m. Ask Your Officers Panel

Members have an opportunity to discuss Academy priorities and emerging trends in primary care with the leadership of the OAFP and the AAFP.

1:45 – 2:30 p.m. Networking Social Refreshment Activity

The details of this activity will remain a surprise; you’ll have to attend to reap the fun benefits!

2:30 – 3:45 p.m. Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Program – CME Panel

In 2016, the Ohio General Assembly legalized medical marijuana for certain medical conditions; medical marijuana will be available to qualifying patients in 2018. Join us for a review of the medical literature on the effectiveness, adverse effects, and safety of medical marijuana. Then, hear a panel of experts from the State Medical Board of Ohio, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, and the Ohio Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee discuss the complications and intricacies of implementing Ohio’s medical marijuana program when federal law prohibits the prescribing, purchase, or sale of marijuana.

Proposed resolutions and Academy Bylaws revisions will be discussed and approved by the membership.

A night of celebration, the Academy Awards Dinner honors the OAFP’s Family Physician of the Year, Family Medicine Educator of the Year, and Friend of Family Medicine; names the OAFP Foundation Physician Mentorship Award recipient; pays tribute to those members reaching their 50 years-in-medicine milestone; installs new leadership; and recognizes all AAFP Fellows.

9:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. Presidents’ Reception

All attendees are invited and welcome to attend this reception congratulating the new OAFP president.

The extended group cut-off date for hotel reservations was July 31.

Accreditation

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 14.5 live Prescribed CME credits (6.5 credits on Saturday and 8 credits on Sunday) by the AAFP.
